This past Sunday our pastor Kim Unrau delivered the second part of the series "Love the Lord your God with ALL your mind." He exhorted us to stop checking our minds at the door of faith. He encouraged us to "be transformed by the renewing of our minds" (Romans 12:2) Most of all, he encouraged us to read, to study and to learn so that we can "show ourselves approved" in the cut and thrust of life especially when it comes to issues of the day such as same sex marriage and abortion. He left us with three questions for this week.
• What are you going to read or study?
• What will you write about that?
• What truth would you like to meditate on this week?
I will take Kim's challenge up this week on my blog.
The book I will be reading is Mark Noll's "The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind ." I will read a chapter and write a post on it and distribute it to my fellow church members at New Life church to get their feedback.
Mark Noll is the Carolyn and Fred McManis Professor of Christian Thought at Wheaton College.
The truth I will be meditating on is "Loving the Lord your God with all of your mind." My meditation will focus on what that looks like as a response to Noll's thinking in his book and how we can put it into practice in daily life.
This should be interesting!
