Mike McLoughlin's Blog :: Why am I writing a blog?

I suppose the principal reason is self discovery. I have been through a period of intense reflection over the past year. I would like to begin to sort out some of my thinking and develop the ideas that flow from this thinking.

Second, I have a passion to put into practice these ideas. This blog will be a record of my attempts and the results.

Thirdly, I think documenting my journey will be an encouragement to others who are facing similar struggles and challenges. So rather than keep this journal a private affair I will “go public” with a blog.

Fourthly, I want to find a voice. I believe that what I am thinking and doing is not just for me but for others. I would like to call others to join with me in making a difference in the world.

I was asked the other day by Business as Mission leader why I was into blogging. My reply was that I think blogging will become the way people get the information that is important to them. It will come to them from a person they trust who will dispense that information in a manner they trust. Thus for me, blogging will be the best way to communicate with an audience who has similar interests and viewpoints as I do. It will be my opportunity to influence this audience. Also, it will be a way of sparking a dialogue about the issues that are important to me and help me to grapple with these issues better. Most of all, blogging is a way of being authentic about who I am and what I am passionate about. So much of my life is spent in a secret dialogue with myself and God about work, faith and life in general. I guard what I am thinking and wrestling with because I fear people will misunderstand me and judge me. I don't feel free to be open about it. Somehow writing a blog enables me to be more open and free to express myself.
