I agree with Len, Small Dead Animals, and Adam. This is a NON story but I predict that the Liberal media will not stop flogging it.  I am sure we will be see a MacLean's article.  Remember that article they did on Stockwell Day under headline "How Scary?"

So I predict the CBC will do a special report on their News Magazine outing "weird" creation science followers infiltrating "scary" evangelical activists who are infiltrating the "intolerant" religious right who are infiltrating the "narrow" Conservative Party. Better watch out!

So we can expect a barrage of stories. I mean what else are they going to do? The news from Gomery inquiry will only get worse for the Liberals.  So I expect this will be the issue they will attempt to use to delegitimize  the Conservatives while neglecting to cover the real issues.

So I suggest we do some pre emptive blogging.

For starters here is a comment from the Globe and Mail Editor Edward Greenspon about Evangelicalism. This comes from a series of articles they did on the diversity and breadth of the evangelical movement in the Untied States.

Referring to the writer of the article Ian Brown, he said, "We both were tired of the caricatures of knuckle-dragging fundamentalists rooted in the past regularly dished out in the press. My own experiences with evangelical Christians indicated a far more nuanced reality." (My comment: Just how nuanced was that piece in the Globe last Friday!)

He goes on to say, "As I look back now, I can recall two great paradoxical impressions of my time living and working so closely with evangelical Christians. The first was the arrogance that only their beliefs could save you; that other religions, or just fine upstanding behaviour on its own, counted for nothing. The second was the warmth and generosity of the Christians I met. They cared deeply about a more moral world in the here and now and were, by and large, better people for their beliefs. Many had led troubled existences and had found inner peace in Christ. Who was I to judge them? I just wished they would stop judging me."

Greenspon's final comment on the series is "So, if you are tired of sneering and want to get inside the evangelical phenomenon, I recommend Ian's series highly." (Given Friday's article all I can say, How ironic!)

It shows me that the Globe and Mail has a hidden agenda. They know evangelicals are not demons but they will choose to portray them as such. This is pure politics!

For a broad view of what Evangelical Christians in America stand for check out For the Health of the Nation: An Evangelical Call to Civic Responsibility.  It was recently endorsed by  the National Association of Evangelicals representing 52 denominations with about 45,000 Churches with over 30 million members.  CBS has a news report on it here.

For the use of the phrase "religious right" or "Christian right" to delegitimize conservatives you will get a good view from doing searches on the term at

Better read up as I think this issue is not going away!

UPDATE: DAIMNATION found a CP article "Christian groups look to influence Liberals, not just Tories." Funny how this article did NOT make the front page of the Globe & Mail unlike the one about the Christian Activists infiltrating the Tories.
